LIACC has extensive experience in the field of machine learning with an emphasis on the application of data mining algorithms in the health field. Regarding the human resources / researchers concerned, these will be:

Luís Paulo Reis
He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Director of LIACC - Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at the University of Porto (FCT / UI00027). His research focuses on the scientific areas of Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Robotics, Intelligent Human-Machine Interfaces, Machine Learning, Intelligent Simulation and Serious Games. He was principal investigator of more than 10 competitively funded projects in these areas including the Intellwheels1.0 project. He is co-author of more than 300 indexed scientific articles (ISI / SCOPUS) published in magazines, books and conferences
international standards. Edited 13 Special Issues from indexed magazines, 16 Springer volumes and more than 20 volumes available in the IEEE Xplore library. Supervised 18 doctoral theses and 101 master's dissertations
already completed. Organized more than 60 international conferences and workshops. For his scientific research, he was awarded more than 50 national / international awards (5 within the scope of the Intellwheels1.0 project). He was President of SPR - Portuguese Robotics Society and is currently Vice-President of APPIA - Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence and
Senior Member of IEEE. He also regularly performs expert functions at the European Commission, Foundation for Science and Technology, National Innovation Agency, among other entities.

Brígida Mónica Faria
He has a degree in Mathematics from FCUP (2002), a Master in Multimedia Technology from FEUP (2008) and a PhD in Computer Engineering from UAveiro (2013). She is a senior researcher at LIACC at the University of Porto. He has extensive teaching experience in the areas of Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematics and Informatics, having created / collaborated in the creation of programs
and taught 43 different curricular units in these areas, having always obtained very good pedagogical results. Conducts research in the areas of Computer Learning, Data-Mining, Statistics,
Intelligent Robotics, Human-Machine Interfaces, Intelligent Simulation and Information Systems. He participated in 10 research projects and developed 3 prototypes in these areas with an emphasis on completing a doctoral thesis in the context of the Intellwheels1.0 project, technical management and very active scientific participation in this project. Oriented / is supervising 12 master's dissertations. He published 14 journal articles, 3 book chapters and 56 articles in international conference proceedings (including more than 50 articles indexed in the ISI web of Knowledge or Scopus). She was co-editor of indexed proceedings and special issues. He was co-chair of several international conferences and Workshops such as IEEE ICARSC, ICAART and 4 editions of ASDACS. It also won seven research awards including the best paper award at the renowned IEEE ICARSC 2013 conference.

António Paulo Moreira
He has a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering - FEUP (1986), option of Electronic Instrumentation, Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering - Systems Specialization at FEUP (1991), Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1998) and Aggregation - FEUP (2017). He is currently Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He is also a Researcher and Coordinator at CRIIS - Center for Industrial Robotics and Intelligent Systems at INESC-TEC and collaborator at LIACC / UP at FEUP. It carries out research mainly in Robotics, Automation and Control, with emphasis on its application in industrial projects and practical applications. He participated or still participates in 23 scientific projects, with the coordinator or researcher responsible for 6 of them. The work developed in these projects generated 25 contracts for the development and transfer of technology, being responsible for 15 of these projects, 18 prototypes, 2 patents, of which he is co-owner, and contributed to the creation of two spin-off companies. These projects also generated most of the referenced publications. It currently has more than 200 scientific publications in books, theses, articles in magazines and minutes from international conferences and workshops and even more than 25 publications in national magazines and conferences.

Armando Jorge Miranda de Sousa
He completed his PhD in 2004 in Electrical and Computer Engineering (EEC) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), in the scientific area of ​​Robotics. He is currently Assistant Professor in the EEC department of FEUP where he teaches disciplines in the areas of Intelligent Robotics, Control and Automation, researcher at the Center for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems at INESC-TEC and LIACC - Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at University of Porto. His research areas include Education for Higher Education, Automation, Robotics, Simulation and Computer Vision. He participates frequently and has won several prizes in robotics competitions and other national and international events in the pedagogical area. He has published more than 30 articles in scientific publications peer-reviewed and indexed in both the pedagogical and technical fields. He currently has a provisionally accepted patent in the field of vision systems. He is also involved in national and European projects in the pedagogical area and also in the technical area.

Daniel Castro Silva
He holds a 5-year pre-Bologna degree in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) - 2006 with a final classification of 19 out of 20 and a PhD in Computer Engineering from the same faculty - 2011. He is an Assistant Professor of Informatics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Senior Researcher at LIACC - Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. His research focuses on the areas of cooperation in multi-agent systems, agent-based simulation, autonomous and intelligent systems and machine learning. He has supervised more than 20 Master's theses and is currently supervising two PhD theses and four Master's theses. Participated in the organization of events, such as the AAMAS workshops (A2HC'17, A2HC'15, MASH’14), and EPIA (MASTA 2013, MASTA 2017). He published 45 indexed articles, including 15 articles in international journals and 30 articles in international conferences.

Ana Paula Rocha
He obtained a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1990, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). She obtained a PhD in Computer Engineering at the same institution in 2002. Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at FEUP and Senior Researcher and Member of the Board of LIACC - Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at the University of Porto. His topics of interest include Intelligent Agents, Computer Learning, Negotiation, Trust and Argumentation in Social Environments. Participated in more than ten European and national projects, involving the use of
intelligent agents and computational learning in practical applications. Participated in the organization of more than ten international conferences and workshops in these areas with an emphasis on being Program Chair of ICAART2017 and ICAART2018. He has published more than 50 articles in indexed international journals and conferences.
